To The Moon

To The Moon

2022

To The Moon is a short animatic that pre-conceptualises the original story from Hser T’wee Moo Dweh which is based on a Limerick by Edward Lear. Over a two month period, a production bible was developed featuring a synopsis, original limerick, script, concept art (characters and shots), storyboard, moodboard, beatboard, shot list, schedule and budget.  For this project, I was the Production Manager handling general oversight, scheduling, and worked on art refining and the storyboard set up.

Synopsis

Edwin, a reclusive scientist, dwells within his laboratory night after night, attempting to create a contraption that will take him to the moon. As he progresses, glowing rabbits begin to spontaneously appear. Although he is annoyed at first, he begins to take a liking to the mysterious creatures, embracing their company.

Everyday, as Edwin’s work advances, the rabbits begin to fill his apartment, rapidly consuming the space and causing chaos. Edwin is delighted with his project’s development when, one day, he receives a letter, Edwin’s funding and resources are to be confiscated. As Edwin’s lab is emptied and his life’s work disappears, so to do the rabbits.

But then one day, as Edwin sits in his empty lab, fiddling with a failed piece of his potential contraption, a rabbit appears. The rabbit seems to encourage him. Inspired, Edwin continues his research despite the lack of resources and approval of the Science Institute. He builds the contraption upon his roof, accompanied by the return of the rabbits. The contraption is a hot air balloon. Together, Edwin and the rabbits set sail for the moon. As they finally reach the moon, the rabbits hop off the contraption towards the moon, dissipating in space. Edwin follows in stride.
